After watching Apple get all the glory with three generations of iPad launches, Microsoft announced Surface, a family of two Microsoft-branded tablets, to showcase its new Windows 8 OS. Microsoft clearly tied Surface to its PC heritage with expansion ports, keyboards, cases and styluses, but left out essential details such as mobile broadband connections, prices or availability dates. That's not likely to play well with consumers or businesses now living in Apple's post-PC world.
