A new smartphone app aims to mobilize the task of buying and selling goods via marketplaces like eBay, Craigslist and Facebook by making it easier to post items, set special pricing and chat with buyers and sellers on the go.
Internet Retailer reports the app, called Quick, is designed to leverage the possibility of smartphones and empower better mobile sales on marketplace sites. Sellers can use the app to scan bar codes of items, find relevant product descriptions on the Web and post the listing across several marketplaces at once. A Friends Only feature lets sellers set special pricing for their Facebook friends, and the app lets buyers and sellers mobile chat to ask questions about an item and determine how to complete a sale. The app monitors all marketplaces, so if an item sells on eBay, for example, the listing is removed there as well as on all other marketplaces. Buyers can also search for items within a specific radius of their location using the Nearby search button. The free app is currently available on Google Play for Android and iPhone version is due soon.
Yankee Group Research Director Sheryl Kingstone comments
“A mobile shopping application is a dime a dozen. What’s missing is the ability to not only harness the power of the phone such as bar codes and location, but do it seamlessly across multiple stores. While 24 percent of respondents state mobile shopping applications are essential, the fact that 47 percent are using mobile apps to purchase merchandise online at a lower cost is a key point that will make these marketplace applications flourish among consumers. However, what is also essential is the uniqueness in which it also engages sellers with easy-to-use features that embrace social and mobile functionality.”
